REQUIEM - ALW
Mr Dowd sent me a new CD - 'REQUIEM'. It has been years since I last heard from him.
UPS just brought it up as Rosey and I sat our fat asses on the porch
after a day of cleaning back things last night's hard freeze killed.
Rosey loves the UPS guy as he always brings her a biscuit.
I just popped it into the porch player which also does DVD and Bluray.
A "Requiem" is a Mass for the repose of the souls of the dead, but sure all here knew that. Thousands have been written, even Mozart did one.
This effort is more modern. I ran across it the other night while posting some renditions of Pie Jesu here on YC.
The
work is scored for chorus, three soloists (tenor, soprano, treble) and a
large orchestra that includes organ, drum kit, and synthesizer. The
work premiered on 24 February 1985[1] and featured performers including
Lorin Maazel, Plácido Domingo, Sarah Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston. -
Wiki
Requiem won the 1986 Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary
Composition. Although the recorded piece has proven popular, the
complete work is only very rarely performed live. This is due to the
large forces required. - Wiki

It is working my simple porch system over, sometimes at a soft "hush",
sometimes shaking the foundations of the porch. (I built this porch,
embarrassing if this brings it down). Soon I will have to let it play
all out on my main system. I am on my second playing and I keep turning
it up. Is that the beer or the music demanding that? My distant
neighbors hate when I get the tunes on the deck up to orchestra level.
When I saw two of my favorites in this (Plácido Domingo and Sarah
Brightman), it hit the top of my "want list". Make that three as few
have captured as much of my entertainment $$ as has Andrew Lloyd Webber.

This is a "teaser" for me as I know soon my Christmas classical tunes will be again be released from storage.
