OK, posting this here to cut down on the bullshit from everyone who's just going give me a raft of shit as "entertainment" on the other forum.
So, I got a DSWmicroPRO4000 sub with the 12" driver and 12 PR. The subs were insane when new.
I got it for free but the amp is just shit because of damage from flooding from hurricane Sandy. I was going to re-power it with a 1K watt amp from Parts Express and just build a filler plate for the amp hole because repairing the one I have has proven futile and Polk Audio would only sell me a new amp directly for $990. That's how much the fucking sub cost new.
But I just found this on the speaker exchange: reconingspeakers.com/product/polk-micropro-3000-amplifier/
That looks a hell of a lot like the one I have that's broke and at $475, it's the same price as the Parts Express amp. Now I gotta go measure and make sure it fits 'cause I'd rather have the right amp than a kludge. Unless anybody has an idea?
'Cause the difference between the 3000 and the 4000 was size of the enclosure because the 3000 has a 10" driver and PR and the 4000 has a 12" driver and PR. Otherwise, the amp has all the same specs and I don't see Polk creating extra cost for different plate stampings for the same amp just to fit it in a bigger sub box. Even then, though, if the amp is smaller, it'd be a hell of a lot easier to fit it to a plate in the current hole than to get the Parts Express amp where I'd have to fill the hole and then mount the sub amp in it's own box to that filler plate.
Also, I got the 4000 from acsubie after Sandy hit. I bought his RTi HT set from him, disassembled it and cleaned it up. I paid like $250 for the whole set and then passed it on to a friend who could use it after I got the in-walls. He asked me if I wanted the sub, said he couldn't get it to work. I was like SURE! Brought it home, cleaned it up and found a problem with a power cap. Replaced both of them and it still wouldn't turn on. Started testing leads and the leads between the controller board and the amp circuit has no signal. Polk does not repair them, just replaces them. Since my 4000 was an "engineering sample" that I think acsubie won at one of the HQ Polkfests, it has no serial number and Polk wouldn't help me out.
If Al was still there they would have helped me out but this was just after SU buyout and they weren't doing anything for anybody without a pay up.
