I bought the SL-1200G today, and wanted to share how impressed with it I am. I took the headshell (Jelco HS-25)and cart (Clearaudio Stradivari v1) off of my old SL-D2 and was up and running in no time.
I played a couple of my favorite records and was blown away by how much more music the new table pulls off of records with the same cart, and how quiet it is. I don’t have much to compare it to. I’ve only ever listened to the SL-D2 and a friend’s SL-1200mk2, and this is in a whole ‘nother league.
The stylus light is a handy feature. The timing light/marks are cool to look at, but along with the rest of the DJ features... a little ridiculous and not likely to ever be used.
I’m a happy camper tonight and can’t wait to listen more tomorrow!

Installed the "Little Fwend Disco" tonearm lifter today. It was a pain in the ass. They expect you to hold it at the perfect height and angle while turning a 0.9mm L wrench to tighten absurdly small set screw in an inaccessible spot. I used two M6 washers to set the height, and it was a little easier, but still a pain in the ass. I still miss the semi-automatic turntable. Here's a picture of it installed: As long as it keeps working, I would recommend this if you're the type of dude who wakes up on the couch with the record spinning in the last groove. How long was I out for?!

Ditched the tonearm lifter in favor of KAB fluid damper. What an upgrade! If you have a 1200 of any vintage, this would be worthwhile.

Here's a photo of it installed. Anyone else ever use a fluid damper setup on their turntable?
