We had a Rotel receiver back in the day but always like the Marantz. I forget what Rotel we had but it had a lot of balls driving our No highs, No lows.... must be **** 901s
I wish I kept it but the Marantz it great all thing considered

I'm really enjoying my Sunfire Signature 400. Great balance between SS and tube sound without the tube hassle.

I wouldn't know the difference between auto bias and manual if it walked up and beat me, I have never had to adjust mine.

I thought with tube amps it was important to bias the tubes especially if they were not matched, unless the unit was auto bias

I had an Anthem AMP 1 that was a great sounding amp. The bias had to be set on the four power output tubes. It wasn't overly hard to do but it was a pain figuring out which tubes were failing and even more of a pain when a bad tube would fry the bias resistor.

If you are curious about tube amplification but don't want a lot of extra hassle, I highly recommend Primaluna products. They are auto bias and will except about any power tube out there. You can even mix and match different power tube types and don't need to run matched quads with them. Also if a tube fails on them, the tube board is fused so it will blow a fuse and not burn out a resistor or worse. Simply replace the bad tube and fuse and cary on. No trips to the repair tech necessary. This makes them essentially about as maintenance free as a SS amp, but you get the awesome tube sound! PL amps also have some of the best bass I've ever heard, even rivaling most SS amps I have tried/heard. I highly recommend them!
Another amp I have that bridges the gap is the Anthem Amp 2. It uses two 6922s on the input stage with a SS output stage. It doesn't quite have that "in the room with you" type sound that most good tube amps have, but it's very close. The addition of a pair of Ediswan 6922s to the Amp 2 really made it come alive and the sound is approaching a full blown tube amp. I have two of the SE edition Amp 2s that I'm going to use to biamp my SRS 2s with when I finally get the room to set them back up. Can't wait to hear that!

Mostly I play digital files. For people like me, buy a quality DAC.

Matter of fact that's what turned me off to tube amps along time ago. Too much hassle, and if someone else is operating the system who knows nothing about audio.....you'll be in for more headaches.

I've got a date with a BAT mono block this weekend. Possible blown bias resistor; fuses didn't fix it. Hope that is all.... What's that old saying, if it has tubes, boobs or tires, sooner or later you're gonna have trouble with it...lol

My BAT amp on the SDA's makes it happen for me, although I haven't played around with tubes a whole lot.
