Yes this is the first Marantz product I’ve ever owned and so far I’m quite happy! My Yamaha RX A1060 was no slouch in the HT department but still wasn’t quite hitting me right when listening to music’. I asked a few people for suggestions as to what a good change would be to no avail so just after days of reading and hearing people say the 8802a is the way to go Without diving into serious money I decided to go this route! I really wanted a pre pro and have the workhorse amp to drive it! The Yamahas amp was never used so kinda a waste right there and another reason to go the pre pro route! Music is definitely a big boost with the 8802a and that right there made it all worthwhile! The Marantz app for the phone is shaky but even with that the sound overrules any app gripe! Just sharing and giving this unit after 5 days in action a big 2 thumbs up!

Anytime you can migrate away from an AVR for music, it's a plus. Glad you like it, Marantz has of late seemed to be getting back to their more musical roots.

Was trying to get with you to see what other avenues were out there but all I found that could take cave of my 5 speakers and 2 subs was getting into many thousands of dollars and the 8802 wasn’t too steep and sounds beautiful in the room! Again I never owned a Marantz before!

Sorry, must have missed it. You probably have heard me say at the other place, many times, that a pre pro, even a HT processor is better than an AVR for music. Sure, they may be a few exceptions, like those old B&k avrs, but those older higher end processors are so cheap now, and offer great 2 channel music. Stuff like the Cary cinema 12 or 11A, Older proceed and Mark levinson stuff, Krell, and a host of others. Some going for just a few hundred bucks too. Most will have digital connections but no HDMI, and all sorts of analog connections, good dacs in them too.
Depends on your needs and wallet is all. Newer processors offer up HDMI , current decoding modes for HT, Nice built in dacs too, but you pay a price also. To me, there is simply no reason anymore to use a low to midline AVR for music. Unless your really cramped for space and coin.
You made an excellent choice my man.
well, until we sink you balls deep into tubes. lol

This is one of those pieces (like most of my gear) I take for granted! The Marantz 8802a is such a blessing and has performed perfectly since day 1! The music is so much sweeter than my old Onkyo and Yamaha receivers did with my digital library and definitely better sounding than the Cambridge 851n . The only issue I have is the Marantz app is quirky with my digital library so I usually use the app provided by Synology which is amazing!

When I get party style funk rolling I kick it in to full gear (5.2 ) is my full gear and that too sounds pretty darn good !
