I'm just about to drive to VAS in Cliffwood, NJ to pick up a new cartridge. The guys are going to set it up on my 'table.
I brought my Clearaudio cartridge there last week after losing sound to the right channel. He said there was a break in the coil. It's not easily repairable because you can only access the internals through a small hole where the cantilever goes through the body. He had a bunch of Clearaudio cartridges there getting various types of work.
I'm trading it in for the new cartridge. I'll report back once I get home!

The trip was a success. We listened to a few records with the new cartridge on their turntable and mine. I was happy with the sound in their shop, and look forward to listening more at home.

I don't think the cartridge is broken in yet, but I've been really enjoying it. It's got a line contact tip, and picks up on a lot of detail my other cartridges (elliptical and "parabolic hybrid") miss. Side effect: it also picks up on ANYTHING that may be in the groove, and any damage to the record. The record cleaning machine is seeing a lot more action. I'm going to try fine tuning the azimuth a little further today with fozgometer, as the right channel seems to have slightly higher output when looking at the VU meters. I wish I had more cartridges to compare to, but so far this cart seems very solid.
