Thought I'd place this here because I didn't want to go into Sals thread and derail it.
The math doesn't add up for me on electric cars. First off, the disclosure. I don't care if you want or own an electric car. If it fits your lifestyle and you can save a few bucks on gas, fantastic....rock on. But....don't tell me it's to save the planet from carbon emissions or some stupid thing like that.
Here's my math problem. Obviously electric cars run on...electricity. Where does electricity come from ? COAL FIRED PLANTS ! Now with this administration and it's war on coal fired plants, regulations, shutting some down, what will that do to the price of electricity ? So on one hand we have tax payer money subsidizing electric cars, while we have government creating policy to raise rates. Then we have more subsidies and loans to battery companies, electric car companies, that have gone belly up at more additional costs to the taxpayer. Now they are talking about raising the subsidy per car from 7500 to 10k. WTF ??
Some things just piss me off.....social engineering is one of them.
Don't tell me it's to reduce your carbon footprint. Don't tell me your saving the planet one car at a time. We both know people bought an electric car because they got a subsidy of other peoples money, and they wanted to save themselves some cash on gas. Which leads me to my other problem with the whole thing. If your intent is to save money on gas, then you subscribe to the fact that more money in your pocket, more of your paycheck that you can keep, is a good thing....desirable, YES ? Does that have to come at the expense of taking out of others paychecks ? If keeping more of your cash in your pocket is a good thing, why do most electric car owners vote for people and policies that do the opposite ? Doesn't add up for me.
And a 130k electric car ? Bullshit....if you could afford 130k for a car......YOU CAN AFFORD THE FRICKIN' GAS !!
