The DAC is more than adequate, we are just picky as hell about DAC's. I think you could live with the DAC's in the touch for a long time before you felt the need to upgrade. And with a networked media player you can still run into that same problem. By keeping a DAC external you at least eliminate the inability to swap them out in the future. Absolutely, the internal dac in the Touch is a 24/96 dac, decent quality too. But like I said, you can always use the dac in your receiver too until you have the coin for a separate dac. Don't underestimate the value of easy to use software in either the Touch or Sonos products. Tony he doesnt have a AVR in his 2 channel setup, he's using a strictly 2 channel pre. So no digital in's for him. RCA only hence his hesitation.

Exactly. I am running the modded C-1 as my pre, so no digital. The DAC in the Marantz is the same that they use in their high-end CDP's. I don't know what tge pioneer uses, but I know some of the Elite players have some nice Burr Brown and Wolfson chipsets. I have an email into Pioneer inquiring about this, but no response yet.

Well, I ended up pulling the trigger on the Music Fidelity M1 Clic. Seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. Hopefully, it won't disappoint.

Nice....MF has a more laid back, warm presentation. Just make sure that's something you'd like.

I have it. I have used it to play FLAC files off of a flash drive. The iPod port to play some MP3's. I have also used it as an external DAC for a CDP. So far, all of these features have worked well and have been fairly impressive. I ordered a power supply for the tower that I am going to use as my music server, that is the function I am really looking forward to trying out. It really makes the MP3's on the iPOd sound a lot better than any other method I have found for playing them. The DAC sounds better than the internals on either one of my CDP's (but that isn't saying much). So far it's a satisfying purchase, but the network functions are supposed to be its strong point, so I'll let you know more once I get to test that out!

Forget the flash drives chief, wireless streaming of all your music is where it's at. Subscribe to Spotify or Rhapsody for 10 bucks a month and you have access to roughly 12 million songs and every radio station on the planet. You may never buy another cd in your life.

Oh yeah the flash drives are only in use because I don't have the computer that I am going to network it with isn't up and going yet. It is just a temporary means of listening to some tunes. The same with the iPod.

So you like the sound then of the MF unit ? Seems so by your description. Let us know how well it streams when you get it all set up. Could be a bargain for a lot of other folks.

I'm loving it. Playing around with a couple different programs on the server to source the music, but the player itself has been FANTASTIC. I finally got some High Res files loaded onto the computer to try out a couple days ago. Very nice. I will say, I am not thrilled with it as a preamp. I'll be glad to get my Belles back for sure. As someone else had mentioned on one of the sites, the gain is pretty low when using the pre-outs, and it isn't quite as "brilliant" as the line level out with a good preamp.

Anytime you see an "all in one" product, compromises are going to be made. Think receivers, the ultimate all in one. That's why a lot of people still profess the benefits of separates. Source, dac, pre amp, amp....still rules as king for ultimate sound quality in my opinion.

As a DAC, I really like this thing, as a network player...I love it. As a preamp....meh. But that's just temporary until I get my Belles back.

That's my thought as well! For $500, it's pretty satisfying!

I'm playing around with a couple different units now. I also picked up a cheap Denon 720AE. It actually works really well as a streamer, but the onboard DAC itself is not so impressive.
